After 12 years as a mobile DJ
Entertainer in Maine, and almost 24 as a Disc Jockey, I have heard many of
the same questions time after time. To assist you in your search for
the perfect DJ, here is a short list of important questions to ask.
1. How many events have you performed at ?
a. For milestone events such as weddings and bar/bat mitzvahs,
this question is critical.
2. May I see
you perform at a wedding reception or bar/bat mitzvah?
a. If your prospective DJ is saying yes, I suggest walking away.
This means that he/she will be selling while at your event. Who do
you want the DJ to concentrate on? You or the next sale?
3. Where do
you meet your clients?
a. Most meet in restaurants, coffee shops while a few have their own
offices.
4. How much
do you charge?
a. The range is Maine is tremendous dependant upon skill,
experience, and the actual date and time of your event. $200-2000 or
more is not out of the question for a range. Set a realistic budget
in accordance with the experience you want at your reception and you
will be pleased with your selection.
5. Are you insured?
a. This much more important than most people realize. Professional
DJs carry a $1-2,000,000 liability policy for your protection.
6. Are you limited to only 4 or 5 Hours because you have another
event?
a.Most of the time, the venue dictates the time allotted for a
party.
7. Are you a "High Strung DJ"? or Do you make yourself the "Center
of Attention"?
a. Another way to ask this is what their actual style is. Some have
a wide range of styles while others have only one that matches their
personality.
8. How early do you arrive prior to an event?
a.Good to know that your DJ will already be playing music when you
arrive at the event.
9. What do you wear to a formal event?
a.Your DJ should always dress in appropriate attire according to the event
and your wishes.
